This document contains specific learner outcomes containing some key elements of reading from the current Alberta English Language Arts (K-9) Program of Studies (2000) that highlight the differences between Grade 7, 8 and 9 readers. These outcomes have been selected to answer the question, “What are the reading skills that are unique to Grade 7, 8 and 9?”
This document can be used to support language arts teachers in planning, choosing texts and assessing reading and content area teachers to know what the reading expectations are for the students they teach.
